Since getting his new hip, Charlie’s been on half time down to the mill. Having all that free time on his hands has turned him into a poetry writing fool. Here’s his latest.
I Got a New Hip
I got a new hip
I’m a happy guy
Got the big thumbs up
From a fella drivin’ by
I’m walkin’ down the street
Not lookin’ at my feet
Shoe laces, I can tie ‘em
Maybe on the second try
Wear clodhoppers so I don’t slip
I got a new hip
I got a new hip
Man, alive
I can walk up stairs, hey,
I can even drive!
(Automatic, of course,
But it’s better than a horse)
Can’t wash my toes
No biggie, I’ll survive
Watch me get around, zip zip
I got a new hip
I got a new hip
I’m not in a slump
Feelin’ sorry for myself
Or sittin’ like a lump
I can reach to the floor
Do the dishes like before
I bundle up the garbage
And I take it to the dump
Honey, don’t you give me no lip
I got a new hip
I got a new hip
It’s like a new set of shocks
I can do my stretches
While following the Sox
My chassis’s on the mend
I can walk the dog again
I’m not some junker
That’s up on cinderblocks
Gimme ‘bout a month and I’ll skip
I got a new hip!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
