Ants, Ants, Ants

June 3, 2019|Ida's Blog

About this time every year, we get ants in our house. Can’t figure out how they get in. Not big carpenter ants, which gross me out, and would have me calling the exterminator for lickity split. Our ants come in phases: first little ants, then tiny ants, then medium sized ants. Just when one size disappears, another kind takes it’s place.

We buy them little ant traps, and those eventually do the trick. But when they’re here, ants sure are a nuisance.

Here’s Charlie’s ode to ants.

Our Uninvited Critters

Well, I feel compelled to write
About our sorry, little plight
When spring is lovely as can be
And suddenly we start to see

Ants! They come up through the cracks
Ants! They’re crawling up my slacks
Goin’ for my TV snacks
Ants, they won’t let us relax

Such persistent little critters!
You could never call them quitters
No, they’re always on the go
Busy, busy, to and fro

Ants, how nice of you to greet
Me at the table where I eat
Breakfast wouldn’t be complete
Without one by my Cream of Wheat

Traps? Oh, we got traps galore
Positioned all around the floor
Each a tiny fast food shack
That all the savvy ants ignore

Ants, they’re in the bathroom, geesh!
Can’t I just sit here in peace?
What would peak their interest, so?
I don’t even want to know!

The pluses of these little critters?
Guess they’re not as bad as ‘skitters
Unlike ticks and other ick
Ants, they don’t give us the jitters

So am I grumpy, am I bitter
‘Bout our uninvited critters?
No, I’m issuing a warning:
Don’t you end up in my fritters!

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
