Last week, I shared Charlie’s poem about our good neighbor, Gus, who was kind enough to loan Charlie his mower while ours was in the shop. The adventure continued when the part came in, but Agway didn’t have time to install it. They figured they wouldn’t get to our mower for at least a few more weeks, so Charlie thought maybe he could install it himself. They gave him a demonstration on how to do it and everything.
But you know what? Charlie’s getting wise in his old age. I’ll let him tell you about it.
Keep My Name on Your List
It’s height of the season, you know how it’s goin’:
About every week, your lawn needs a mowin’
But what if your mower is now on the fritz?
Well, under a tarp, that’s where it sits
‘Til your name comes up down to Agway Repair
The one game in town, so they got their share
Of people like me, with mowers in need
But don’t go to them if you’re hoping for speed
My name on their list, their manager speaks,
“Charlie, you’re looking at 4-6 weeks”
“Then order the part, if it’s not on your shelf,
And I’ll give it a go, and fix it myself!”
Well, the part finally come, and back at my yard
I flipped the ol’ Toro, and studied her hard
Perhaps I could fix it, but then, maybe not
I says to myself, you don’t know squat
About fixing these things, it’s not your profession
Sure, there is valor, but then there’s discretion
‘Cause what if the problem gets more complicated?
My wife’s asking, “Won’t you get further frustrated?”
“Yup,” I agree, back to Agway I go
With the part in my hand, kinda sheepish, you know?
I told them, “I’ll just make a mess out of this.
My wife says you best keep my name on your list”
Good news! Our temperamental Toro came home on Monday. After a tearful reunion (LOL), Charlie started her up and went to town.
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
