Driving Into the Moon

April 20, 2020|Ida's Blog

Couple weeks ago, Charlie nicely volunteered to go down to the A&P on Tuesday morning and pick up some basics, meaning toilet paper. They let the employees (and their families) shop before the store opens on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I just happen to know that on Monday nights a certain much in demand paper product just might be delivered.

It’s been stressful for us cashiers on the front lines of this thing, day in and day out, and I just couldn’t wrap my head around going to the A&P when I’m not working. So Charlie stepped up to the plate, like he does. Marriage is all about team work, right?

It was the day of the Super Pink Moon, and driving to the A&P at 5:45 in the AM, Charlie had a mystical experience. I’ll let him tell you about it.

Driving Into the Moon

I’m driving into the moon
There it hangs before me like
Some tired old balloon
As I head into town
Driving into the moon

The grocery store is open at six
I’ll grab me a cart
Stand six feet apart
Everyone’ll be wearing a mask
To handle what was
So easy a task

I’m driving into the moon
I could have slept some more
But listen, if you wait ‘til noon,
None’ll be left
Driving into the moon

Toilet paper, that is the goal
We’re down to a roll
I’m not gonna stroll
Once they open, run for the aisle
And maybe, with luck,
Go home with a smile

Tell me, moon, oh, what do you see
When you look back at us?
Anxious folks, too many to name
Out on the road, all doing the same?

We’re driving into the moon
Heading for that grocery store
And we’ll be learning soon
If our tissue of white
Came in last night
We’ll know soon
Driving into the moon

That’s it for now. Stay safe, and catch you on the flip side!
