Maybe Tomorrow

February 6, 2023|Ida's Blog

Have you ever had a chore that just gets shuffled from one to-do list to another? Something that needs to be fixed or put away or thrown away, but you never to get to it. “Maybe tomorrow,” you say. But tomorrow never comes. And by the by, you don’t even notice anymore when you jiggle the handle of the pesky toilet. Or automatically bump your hip against that drawer that sticks when you come to shut it

Well, you’re not alone.

Charlie got inspired. Not to do his chore, but to write a poem about not doing it.

I’ll Get To It One Of These Days

There’s a nail head that catches my shovel, it seems
Whenever it snows on the deck
And then I think, Oh, what the heck
I should just fix it, what would it take?
A pound of the hammer? It would be cake
But the thought, instead, doesn’t stay in my head
I’ll get to it one of these days

It’s so unessential, inconsequential
The thing never gets on the list
It’s a problem that doesn’t exist
Until we get hit with the next 6 to 10
And I gotta shovel all over again
I’ll dig and I’ll flail and get caught on that nail
I’ll get to it one of these days

See, if I with my hammer start pounding away
I’m sure to find more nails to pound
The problem would only compound
I’d run out of nails, have to go into town
In short, this one little chore will become
A project I’ll wish I had never begun
Prob’ly the thing is to wait until spring
For now, the bugger can stay
All morning I’ve pushed and I’m too friggin’ bushed
I’ll shovel around it and call ‘er a day

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!

P.S. Don’t let taking down your Christmas decoration be one of those things you put off ‘til tomorrow. Grounds Hog’s Day has come and gone. Time to say bye-bye to Santa and all that Xmas paraphernalia.
