Charlie and me are pretty much over our Happy New Year colds. Well, me mostly. Charlie still has that pesky cough. It’s the kind of thing that really revs up at night, just when you’re trying to sleep. But we’re both happy to be on the other side of it, starting to have our usual energy back.
Remember when a cold lasted about three days, five max? I do. And then you’d snap out of it? Now we’re talking ten days to two weeks. What happened? Have the bugs gotten nastier or is it because we’re old?
On top of recovering from this bug, I had myself what I can only call an “old snap” this week.
I’m at Mikey’s Meat Market. There’s a couple of the younger guys behind the counter. Don’t know their names. They’re not real young, mind. I’d say 40’s, maybe low fifties.
One guy says to the other, “You watch “Yellowstone?”
The other guy makes a face. “Are you kidding? That’s for old ladies.” Then he sees me and asks. “Do you watch Yellowstone?”
Ouch!
Later in the week, I’m shopping at Walgreens and the gal behind the counter says, “Oh, cute purse!”
“Thanks,” I reply. “How Imelda Marcos felt about shoes? That’s how I feel about handbags.” I could tell by her face, she had no idea who Imelda Marcos was. I soldier on, “I say, you can’t have too many purses.”
“Oh, I love them, too,” she says. “I have a couple of cool vintage ones that belonged to my grandmother, back in the ’70’s.”
“Wow! Aren’t you lucky!”
I’m pretty sure she was referring to the 1970’s. But how can that be? Now when I stop and think about it, I know that’s fifty years ago. But in my heart, it seems like just yesterday.
To me, vintage is something from the 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. Yikes! I guess that makes me vintage.
Anyhoo, I really appreciate the sunshine this time of year. It seems so bright, doesn’t it? It may be wicked frigid outside, but inside our cozy in our little double wide, looking out at that clear blue sky, it ain’t too bad.
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
