We just had a heat wave in Mahoosuc Mills. High 90’s in June, for God sake! When I was young, I can’t remember the temperature getting hotter than low 80’s in the height of summer.
Thank goodness the A&P is air conditioned! What a difference that makes. You can almost see it on people’s faces when they walk in. They perk up a little. “Hot enough for you?” they ask. Oh, if had a dollar for every time someone said that, I’d been wealthy woman.
Now, you’d think being in that air-conditioning would improve everyone’s mood, but for some, it just gives them more energy to complain. See heat like that can make folks cranky. I mean, we’re in Maine, for God sakes! We’re not equipped to handle it. It’s like when some place down south gets an inch of snow, and everyone goes off the road. That’s what it feels like here in Mahoosuc Mills in the middle of a heat wave. Folks gets discombobulated.
Here’s Charlie’s take on the situation.
Dog Days of Summer
Dog days of summer
Man, is it hot!
Me and the missus
Don’t wanna do squat
Don’t want to cook
Or wash any clothes
(Though they’d dry in a snap
On the line, I suppose)
Don’t feel like scraping
And painting the deck
Nah, that can wait ’til
Next year, what the heck
Don’t feel like mowin’
Or mopping the floors
Weeding or needing
To do any chores
Don’t envy the Sox,
That’s all I can say,
I’ll crack me a cold one
And call it a day
The weather is back to normal now, though. I’m writing this on Saturday, and guess what? It’s raining. Again!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
