Snooze, You Lose

February 26, 2018|Ida's Blog, Life Lessons

It’s been a few weeks since I finished radiation, and I’m starting to feel more myself. And heck, it’s almost March. March in Maine means even if you get snow, you still feel hopeful that spring is right around the corner.

Now that I have more energy, I’m trying to catch up on some of the things I let slide. Still trying not to sweat the small stuff, but there’s a limit. I mean, dust bunnies the size of tumbleweeds? That’s just not right!

Here’s a poem about what Charlie’s been up to lately.

I Didn’t and Here We Are

I coulda snow-blown while the snow was fluff
Before it all turned to that crusty stuff
But it was still snowin’, I was beat
All I wanted to do was get offa my feet
My blower’s unhappy, there’s no doubt
Tank’s fulla gas but it conks right out

Coulda, woulda, shoulda,
I like to say
But I didn’t and here we are

I coulda made more of an effort, I s’pose
To deal with that ice before the driveway froze
I salted it plenty, way you should
But the stuff I bought didn’t work that good
Down I went, didn’t take a header
But my back’s outta whack and it ain’t gettin’ better

Coulda, woulda, shoulda,
I always say
But I didn’t and here we are

Long as I’m laid up with this back
Let’s look in the fridge for a snack!
I search and stare, look everywhere
But I can’t find Ida’s bread puddin’ in there
Been meanin’ to eat it, shouldn’t have waited
Snooze, you lose: Ida musta ate it

Coulda, woulda, shoulda,
I like to say
Though it’ll never get me far
Coulda, woulda, shoulda
In hindsight, sure
But I didn’t and here we are

I plead the fifth on that bread pudding.

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
