We had a happy Thanksgiving here in Mahoosuc Mills. My sister, Irene, hosted and I helped her in the kitchen. That’s always my favorite part of the holiday, cooking with my sister. That and the leftovers. Way too many leftovers. Let’s just say that the turkey was not the only thing that was stuffed.
We always, go around the table and say what we’re thankful for. This year, Charlie surprised us with a poem. What a sweetie!
Thankful
Thankful? What I’m thankful for:
A year without a canker sore,
Flu or some persistent hack
My back did not go outta whack
Mower started like a breeze
I weren’t attacked by any bees
Finally ditched our leaky beater
And got a brand new water heater
Seems like every year the drill’s
To lay off fellas at the mill
Jobs like ours are in decline
I’m thankful that I still got mine
Our fishin’ trips, I’m kinda glad
That none of us messed up too bad
That bass I caught, who fought me so?
Out of respect, I let him go
This Red Sox season was a laugh
How ‘bout an all new coachin’ staff?
Don’t need no turkey on my table
Just my easy chair and cable
But really, what I’m thankful for
Are Scamp and Ida at my door
Returning from the daily grind
They are all I hope to find
Back at ya, Charlie!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
