All and all, we haven’t really had that bad a winter. The brunt of it happened during one week in February. You know, the one where we had a snow storm every other day. Then we had some spring-like weather, even up here in the north country. Temperatures soared (meaning it got up in the fifties on one day) and so did our moods. What a tease ‘cause, honey, snow and single digit temps in March are just nasty!
Sure it’s not going to last. But that’s what folks said about the cold I’ve just gotten over (fingers crossed). You know, the one that’s lasted for over two weeks. It’s the third one I’ve gotten this year, or it could be the same one that I never get over. Our friend Rick called it a plague-like croup, and that’s a pretty good description.
Anyhoo, to make us feel happy that we’re not back in February, here’s a poem Charlie wrote about that one week of high winter.
Three Storms in a Week
Three storms in a week
Look at this snow, I can’t believe it!
Three storms in a week!
Me, I’m runnin’ outta room to heave it
God slobbered,
We got clobbered
Three storms in a week!
My Toro started up OK
That’s one vict’ry for today
But it did not have the oomph to grind
The crud the snowplow left behind
And so, to shovelin’ I revert
‘Til my back begins to hurt
Tylenol, I hear ya calling
As the snow continues falling
Look at it comin’ down, eek!
Three storms in a week!
Snow, it makes a lovely show
‘Til you got somewhere to go
Then, I’ll tell you what you got:
A royal pain in the you-know-what!
When friends in Florida call, I say
We’ve been digging out all day
Got three feet or more, and that’s just
Through the keyhole in the door!
No sooner have I shoveled, when
The Town has plowed me in again
My mood steadily sours as
Our neighbor jokes, “Want any of ours?”
Three storms in a week
And me, I got nowhere to heave it
Three storms in a week!
I’m mightily tempted just to leave it
Heck with this stuff,
I’ve had enough!
Three storms in a week!
Snow, it makes a lovely show
‘Til you got somewhere to go
I know that place, for me,
Is in front of the ol’ TV
Watchin’ “Jeopardy”
Until it all blows out to sea!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
