My Hero

October 3, 2016|Ida's Blog

One of the things I love most about Charlie is he sees what needs to be done and does it. No need to form a committee, and discuss it to death. No ignoring it and hope someone else will step up to the plate. (Okay, to be honest, there were a few incidents where he left a scrap of toilet paper on the roll instead of replacing it. Hey, no one’s perfect.) But all in all, my Charlie’s a doer, and that includes writing poetry about what he’s doing. Here’s the latest.

Happy to Have Done My Bit

Today I saw a scary sight
Drivin’ back to my abode
Something dark was sitting right
In the center of the road

Then I saw its head arise
And off its shell, sunlight gleamed
A turtle! That’s what I surmised
About to get completely creamed

Cars were swerving, awfully near
That fella was in no-man’s land
I couldn’t bear to think that here
Is where he’d make his final stand

So I pulled over, off the road
And from my pick-up’s cab I hopped
Up to the little guy I strode
And both ways, everybody stopped

I picked him up, he tucked his head
I hoped his flight was not too harsh
Once I set him down he tread
Quickly off into the marsh

A cheerful chorus then began
As if I had performed a skit
Back across the road I ran
Happy to have done my bit

Charlie, you’re my hero!

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
