Charlie and me had a great time on Saturday night. We went to a dance down to the VFW. It was a fundraiser for the artist collective that our niece Caitlin belongs to. I don’t know exactly what an artist collective is, but she seems to have a lot of fun with it so it can’t be half bad.
The band wasn’t the usual deal we’d go in for, you know rock n’ roll oldies. It was this Latin-type band up form Portland. Oh, what a cute bunch of young fellas, wicked talented and very energetic!
When it come right down to it, Charlie wanted to blow the whole thing off. “I’m tired from workin’ in the yard, and my stomach’s kind of acting up.”
“I told you that you shouldn’t have had that second burger.”
“Besides, I don’t know how to dance to that stuff.”
“Charlie, we’re going to support Caitlin.”
“We bought tickets. Isn’t that support enough?”
“No, it isn’t. Don’t’ be such an old fogey. Take a couple of Tums, a shower and a nap. We’ll eat a light din-din. I made some corn chowder, and I was gonna whip up some homemade biscuits to go with it. Sound good?”
“I guess.”
Honest to God! As a woman, I know I’m responsible for the greater vision of the couple, but darn, it can get tiresome.”
Charlie must’ve needed the nap, because he slept so long, we didn’t have time to do the dishes before we left. Not my usual MO, but go with the flow, right?
Of course, once I got Charlie to the dance, he loved it. He thinks he’s not that good a dancer, but I beg to differ. Plus, I’ve been taking Zumba with the girls for a couple of years now, so that gave us an edge. Gosh, we had fun!
Charlie was so inspired, he wrote a poem about it.
Latin Boom Boom
Ida and me went to a dance, the other night
I wasn’t feelin’ that great
But Ida, boy, she really wanted to go, and
She didn’t wanna be late (no, no)
So we left all our silverware and plates, right in the sink
And headed down to the hall
The band was from away, and when they began to play
My tummy weren’t so crummy after all
They were playin’ that boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
Don’t know what you call it
But we couldn’t sit still to that
Boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
Man, you should have seen us shakin’ up the room
Two left feet out on the floor, that’s me
Finesse, I guess I got none
I don’t know a Mambo from a Cha Cha Cha
But I know when my feets are havin’ fun
They like the sound of that boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
Don’t know what you call it
But we couldn’t sit still to that
Boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
Man, you should have seen us shakin’ up the room
Now, we were a little bummed out, when we got home
We still had them dishes to do
But Ida, she found us a Latin music station, and
Suddenly, we were all through
They were playin’ that boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
Don’t know what you call it
But we couldn’t sit still to that
Boom, boom, Latin Boom Boom
What a lot of fun
The dishes got done, and
Man, you should have seen us shakin’ up the room
Ida and me were shakin’ up the room
Boom, boom
I don’t know if it’s just me or what, but I think Charlie’s getting better and better.
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
