Backlog

April 25, 2016|Ida's Blog

Last Wednesday, my back went out. And here’s the deal: I wasn’t doin’ anything when it happened, just my usual morning routine. I get up, walk Scamp, shower, get dolled up, eat breakfast. I tidy up the house before I leave for work, grab my coat and purse. I’m on my way out the door, and all of a sudden, bam! I get a massive spasm in the lower back. I mean, it was hard to get into the car and to lean over to close the door, almost impossible, but I managed. Sitting in the car wasn’t all that comfortable either, and it never let up all day.

Man, was I ever wiped out when I got outta work. So much so, I called Charlie and asked him to pick up a couple of Italian sandwiches and BBQ chips on the way home. Comfort food.

There are certain advantages to getting older. I can’t think of what exactly they are right now because I’m in too much pain, but I’ve talked about this before so it must be true, right? But the difference between me and my younger self is, one, I would’ve known what I did that caused my back to seize up, and whatever it was it would have been more fun than walking out the door to go to work. And B, I would have bounced back quicker. Like the next day, I’d be right as rain.

And Thursday, it was slightly better, so I was hopeful. But when I went to put my sneakers on to go walk Scamp, I had to think about how exactly I was going to do it. I could jam my foot into ‘em, but tying them took effort. I couldn’t bend over, so I had to kind of lift my leg with my arms and set it on my knee in order to tie my sneakers and even that was hard. Then, I tweaked my back again bagging Scamp’s poop. What the heck!

Needless to say, it’s been a long week. I’m writing this on Saturday, and I’m still nursing my injury. I looked online and it said back pain usually gets better in two to four weeks. You’ve got to be kidding! I’m committed to icing it today and see if that helps. I’m trying to have a good attitude, but I find the whole thing pretty irritating!

In short, no words of wisdom in this week’s blog, folks, just a little whining. I hope you’re enjoying this spring weather. I was going to work in the yard today, but….

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
