Charlie wrote this poem a couple of weeks ago, and I’m just getting around to sharing it with you. I’ve been wicked busy with my new show. Having a blast with it! But now I’m back down to business.
I gotta say, I’m with Charlie on this one. I swear, I saw Halloween stuff out in some stores at the end of August. There ought to be a law!
Home Depot: September 21
Look at the trees, they’re starting to turn
And for cool sleepin’ weather, I no longer yearn
September is here, but I find it queer
To see pumpkins for sale at Home Depot
Pallets of pumpkins in front of the store
Are we s’posed to buy ‘em to put by our door?
It’s six weeks or something ‘til we’re carvin’ pumpkin
So why are they here at Home Depot?
Gone the umbrellas, gone are the grills
Gone the lawnmowers, let’s head for the hills!
Thanksgiving’s not yet, I just don’t get
All these pumpkins they got at Home Depot
Up overhead, you hear the geese call?
They, like the rest of us, know that it’s fall
It’s time to head south, so they open their mouth
And honk at us dopes at Home Depot
In case we’ve forgotten what winter’s about
Next they’ll be bringing the snow blowers out
And roof rakes and salt for slip’pry asphalt
They’re thinkin’ ahead at Home Depot
We’re struck by our neighbor’s holiday cheer
They still got their Christmas wreath up from last year
It’s brown as my boot, but who gives a hoot?
They’ll have new ones next week at Home Depot!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
