You can’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. It’s true for kids, and personal experience has taught me, it’s true for seniors, too. What with my eye situation and the heat, sleeping good has been a challenge for both me and Charlie. ‘Til last night.
I’ll let the Poet Laureate of Mahoosuc Mills tell you all about it.
The Couch
She’s pitching about
Like a boat on the sea
And pulling the covers
Right off of me
A night without sleep
That’s what I’m dreading
I know exactly
Where I am heading
The couch
That is where I always go
The couch
When she gets to fidgeting so
An island of peace
Where the ruckus will cease
And my day won’t begin
With a kick in the shin
She’s thrashing around
As if she’s being chased
By a bunch of bad guys
Who want her erased
I’ll grab my pillow
And quietly creep
Off to a spot
Where I know I can sleep
The couch
Up, dog, you gotta go
The couch
Why? ‘Cause I’m telling you so
Go lie over there
And don’t make a peep
‘Cause this is where
I’m gonna sleep
The couch, to be sure,
Is a bit of a squeeze
I fit OK if I’m
Bending my knees
But I gotta look out
It’s happened before
I try to roll over
And boom!, hit the floor
The hugging? The kissing?
I’m all for keeping
But not getting bopped
When she’s s’posed to be sleeping
Before she makes off
With my only sheet
I better beat me
A hasty retreat
To the couch
Hey, it isn’t too lumpy
The couch
Tomorrow, I won’t be so grumpy
‘Cause I will have slept!
How about that?
I will have slept
Just as sound as a cat
I fled from the bed
To lay down instead
On my trusty ol’ buddy
The couch
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
