It’s that time of year again where squirrels and drivers do si do. You have to keep an eagle eye out because an excited squirrel and a distracted driver is not a good combo. Not for the squirrel, certainly, but not you, either.
Remember back in 2018 (I looked it up) where it was crazy how many dead squirrels were on the road? I guess there was a bumper crop of acorns the year before, so there were more little squirrels that year. All the young squirrels were leaving the nest about the same time, and apparently they weren’t taught to look both ways before crossing the road.
This year’s squirrel population seems about normal, but they still like playing dodge ball with passing motor vehicles.
Better Make Your Mind Up, Squirrel
Up ahead, I see a squirrel
Who’s got his tail up in a curl
A question mark, ‘cause he don’t know
Which direction he should go
And here comes I, just his luck,
6,000 pounds of pick-up truck
Boy, could I impact his world!
Better make your mind up, squirrel
Don’t just stand there, tempting fate
Move! Before it gets too late
Give the other side a whirl
But leave the roadway, Mr. Squirrel
Chances are, if you don’t scram
It’s off to Never-Never Land
That special place, where don’t you know,
All indecisive squirrels go
Weigh your options, that’s OK
But buddy, you are in my way
I’ll brake and give you half a chance
So you can do your little dance
Of back and forth, to and fro
All these choices! You don’t know
And while you scramble to decide
We’re nearly certain to collide
And wouldn’t that just be a mess?
We’d both be sorry, more or less
So lest your hopes and dreams explode
Get out of the friggin’ road!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
