My birthday was last week, though to be honest I celebrate all month. I always take the day off from work and do what I want to do. That includes bacon for breakfast and going out of supper (which we could actually do this year) with popcorn, candy, and binge watching something in between. Throw in a sunshine-y walk with Scamp and a little cuddling with my guys, and it’s a perfect day.
As if that wasn’t enough, the best thing happened on Saturday. I got together with the Women Who Run With the Moose: inside with hugs. Yes! We’re all fully vaccinated! So we had a birthday party, not just for me, but for everyone. Us gals chased those lonely Covid birthdays away with booze, sugar and laughter. Man, it felt good and (dare I say it) normal!
In honor of me being a year older, Charlie’s been saving up a couple of poems about aging which he lovingly presented to me. Wasn’t that nice?
Hearing Aid in the Oatmeal
Hearing aid in the oatmeal’s how
The day began for me
Rootin’ through the raisins for
The little battery
It took a while to find the thing
My breakfast went to hell
I cleaned it off, it looked OK
As far as I could tell
I stuck the gadget in my ear
And heard the thing re-boot
But then the little voice it said,
“Your battery’s kaput”
My day could just play out like this
Or, I thought, instead
I could simply call it quits
And just go back to bed
This last poem reminds me of a clip I saw on facebook. The comedian said something like, “Isn’t getting older wonderful? You go to bed fine, then you wake up and your back’s out. You sneeze and pull something in your neck. I swear, I’m one thunderous fart away from total paralysis.” I could relate. So could Charlie.
Threw My Back Out
Threw my back out yet again
How’d I do it? Nothin’ to it
All I did was blow my nose
That’s how all this pain arose
It’s not as if I took a fall
It don’t take anything at all
Like spotting something going past
And turning just a bit too fast
All I did was honk, I guess,
Ow! My back is now a mess
Tylenol around the clock
(Hope we got some more in stock)
Ice pack helps, that’s a given
And extra strength Pabst Blue Ribbon
Make sure you’ve got a lot of those
And careful when you blow your nose!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!

Moose Fun Fact:
“The moose has a flap of skin under its chin called the “bell” which kind of sways when it walks. That didn’t used to apply to me, but the older I get, ding-dong.”
