Went to a plant sale in front of town hall on Saturday. It was sponsored by the Mahoosuc Mills Garden Club. They’re the ones that keep our town looking spiffy all summer long, with flowers in big containers along Main Street. They always have some nice plants, and the money goes to a good cause, so it’s a win/win.
The Garden Club members are big into gardening, as you can imagine. Some more than others. I’ll let Charlie tell you about it.
Goin’ to the Plant Sale
So, I’m at the local plant sale
Holding something Ida’s found
“Charlie, would you wait here
While I have a look around?”
What’s that buzzing I keep hearing
Somewhere close to me?
Why, it’s Donna Jean Catalpo
And she’s dressed up like a bee!
A friendly bumble bee, with two
Antennas and some wings
Not the other, nasty sort
That only lives to sting
No! She’s overjoyed to see
All of us today
The rain held off and it
Is finally spring again, hooray!
Donna says how much she loves
The bee balm that we’re buying
“Plant it in a sunny spot
And boy, will we come flying!”
“Will do!” says I, “Hey, tell me,
Did your Frank come here today?”
“There,” she buzzes, taking flight,
“It’s he you gotta pay”
Well, now, here comes Ida
With a cart load full of plants
(I drop out of line so other
Folks don’t look askance)
“Charlie, you seen Donna Jean
All dressed up like a bee?”
“Yeah, she says she’ll pollinate
Our bee balm here for free”
Cashier Frank, he’s sportin’
Two antennas on his head
“You must be the king bee, Frank!”
“Yup,” is all he said
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
