Saturday morning, Charlie and me are having breakfast, per usual. We touch base about our plans for the weekend (a baked bean supper that night) and what chores we have on our lists for the day.
After, Charlie does the dishes, per usual, and I start in on my weekly house cleaning. Then, off he goes to the dump. I come into the kitchen to get something, and find all the breakfast dishes still sitting there in a sink full of water. I’ll let Charlie take it from here.
Water on the Brain
Morning dishes, that’s the chore
I do before I leave the door
The breakfast bowls and silverware
Whatever else we got in there
I fill the sink with water, hot
And suds to loosen every spot
But list’ning to that water flow
It dawns on me, I gotta go
Now! I haven’t time to spare
(Hope my wife is not in there)
I shut the faucet, turn and dash
And after I have made a splash
I brush my teeth, my hair, you know,
Then grab my keys and off I go.
Phew! The urge, it’s always coming
That’s the nature of my plumbing
Ida calls, ’bout eight, I think
“What’s with the dishes in the sink?”
(Damn, forgot ’em! Not OK!)
Got no excuse, and so I say,
“Sometimes it’s good to let ’em soak!”
“All day?” she scoffs. “That’s a joke!”
“Why I done it, can’t explain
I had water on the brain!”
Sometimes Charlie gets so focused on what needs to be done, he loses track of what he’s doing now. There must be a lesson in there somewhere.
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
