Charlie and me are all set for Halloween tomorrow night. I bought a bunch of candy, ate it, bought some more, and you guessed it. Now I’m candied out, so I took the leftover candy and donated to the Community Center for their Halloween party.
Who am I kidding? There was no leftover candy. I had to buy more candy and drive directly to the Community Center, do not pass go, do not, under any circumstances, rip open that plastic bag. There was a moment where I thought they were going to have to pry that candy out of my hands, but I manage to let it go and run from the building all the while stifling a sob. Well, that’s what it felt like, anyways.
So what are Charlie and me doing tomorrow night? We’re going to check out the Halloween Parade downtown Mahoosuc Mills. It’s mostly kids and their parents, and a few zombies thrown in for good measure. Oh, my God, are some of those little guys ever cute! The kids, not the zombie. Then, we’re going to grab a bite over at the Busy Bee. They’re usually only open for breakfast and lunch, but because of the holiday festivities they’re open until 8:00 and are featuring a special menu: beef stew, homemade biscuits, pumpkin whoopie pies and hot chocolate. What’s not to like about that, right?
Afterwards (And Charlie doesn’t know this part yet, so let’s keep it between you and me. There are some areas where it’s best to keep your spouse on a need-to-know basis.), we’re going to Halloween Spook-tacular up to Bucky Dumont’s farm. I figure we can work off some of those calories running from monsters and getting the you-know-what scared out of us. We haven’t been to this thing for years, and I hear they’ve really gussied it up since Bucky’s son’s, John and Jamie, took over. It’s become a real destination event.
“Experience your worse nightmares in this monster-a-minute excursion into the Maine woods. Guaranteed to creep you out big time, this attraction is not suitable for children under sixteen and those suffering with heart conditions. Enter if you dare!”
I gotta admit, my interest is peaked. At the very least, it’ll give Charlie and me something to talk about. And after forty-one years of marriage, honey, that’s a good thing.
Happy Halloween, everyone!
That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
