It Could Have Been Worse

February 24, 2020|Ida's Blog

The Poet Laureate of Mahoosuc Mills is at it again!

It Could Have Been Worse

Damn snow blower crapped out in the slush
So I began to shovel what I could of the mush
Now I’m in the recliner, my wife’s the nurse
My back is out of whack, but it could’ve been worse

It could have been worse, what else can you say?
     Tylenol’s working, I’m doin’ OK
I’ll get to that slush, but first things first:
The Bruins are playin’, it could have been worse

The doctor thought I should take a memory test
I suspected that I wouldn’t score among the best
So it wasn’t like my hopeful little bubble burst
When he looked up and told me, “It could have been worse”

It could have been worse, the state of my head
That’s all that I recall of whatever he said
A bit of bad news don’t amount to a curse
Guess I didn’t score great, but it could have been worse

I wrote a little ditty to share with my wife
It was rough around the edges, but I thought it had life
Maybe I could wow her with the power of verse
I saw by her expression: it could have been worse

It could have been worse, the reaction I got
She could’ve condemned it, there on the spot
But I didn’t get the ol’ thumbs-up in reverse
It was hardly a wow, but it could have been worse

No, a bit of bad news don’t amount to a curse
About all you say is, it could have been worse

That’s if for now. Catch you on the flip side!
