Mammogram Pet Peeve

February 19, 2018|Ida's Blog

I had to go in for a mammogram last week. I know! I just finished radiation for breast cancer and I have go in for a mammogram? Don’t worry. They didn’t pancake the tender one, the one that was operated on and then irradiated. No, I get to have a mammogram on that one in six months. This was for my left breast. Now my boobs are on a different schedule. Honey, the girls have seen more action in the past few months than when Charlie and me were first dating!

It’s the first time I’ve ever been nervous for a mammogram. Actually, I was a little cranky because I didn’t want to be there. But, not to worry. Everything is fine.

Well, almost everything. Pet peeve: why don’t they have a hand warmer for the mammogram technicians? They put lots of effort into the soft lighting and the cloth robes. Then you get into the room and the technician says, “You’ll have to excuse my hands. They’re a little chilly.” Every. Single. Time.

I was relieved when I left the Breast Care Center with my clean bill of health, but a little wrung out by the stress. So, I went directly to the pharmacy in the hospital which I happen to know carries an assortment of penny candy, as they should. I bought some Hershey’s Kisses, a couple of Bull’s Eyes, mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and a York Peppermint Patty Junior to clear my palette. I scoffed ‘em down on the way home, and all that delicious goodness put me right as rain. So did coming home to Scamp, who’s always over the moon to see me.

Before I left the house, I’d put some beef stew in the crockpot and the whole place smelled wonderful. One of the things I love about a slow cooker is when I walk into the house, it’s like coming home to dinner cooking when I was a kid. I almost expect to see my mother standing by the stove.

Soon Charlie got home, and I could tell him all was well. And after a delicious dinner, we sat in our Barkalounger love seat, watching the tube, and holding hands. It doesn’t get much better than that.

That’s it for now. Catch you on the flip side!
